Marion Animal Hospital was established in 1970 by Dr. Robert Fanton, at its current location of 448 7th Avenue. Dr. Fanton did both small animal medicine and some equine work. The practice was purchased in 1983 by Dr. Marvin Schmitt. Dr. Schmitt discontinued equine work to focus on small animal medicine. Dr. Schmitt owned the practice for 21 years and sold it in 2004, so that he could start enjoying retirement. Dr. Ryan Bock purchased the practice at that time, and has owned it since. The practice has been totally remodeled during Dr. Bock’s ownership but continues to have the “at home” feel that drew him to purchase the practice in 2004.
Marion Animal Hospital is a digital practice, so client and patient information is digitally accessed. This provides a better standard of care because a patient’s records can be accessed quickly and more completely.
To improve our diagnostic abilities, we have laboratory equipment onsite. Surgery innovations include; patient monitoring equipment that monitors heart rate and rhythm, pulse oximetry, blood pressure and carbon dioxide levels during anesthesia to help ensure the best patient care. We also do dental care and have x-ray capabilities.
We now use digital x-ray equipment. With a digital x-ray, the image is captured on a computer. This allows us to work easily with specialists if needed, to get the best care for our patients. Dental care is an important part of medicine, as having healthy teeth and gums is an important aspect of overall health for your pet.
